1970s-1980s Gruppo dei Quattro Italian Art Pottery Pierrot Clown Figurine

This stunning and rare vintage ceramic clown figurine is from Gruppo dei Quattro, a premium art pottery studio founded by master artisans and sculptors in Nove, Italy. Dating back to the 1970s–1980s, this exquisite piece is entirely handcrafted, not mass-produced by machines, making it a truly one-of-a-kind piece.

Belonging to the Classical Pierrot / Commedia dell'Arte line, this figurine leans heavily toward Fine Art installation style, capturing a relaxed and completely natural sitting pose. The absolute highlight of this piece lies in the magnificent sculptural drapery. The master artisan meticulously rolled the clay into thin porcelain fabric sheets, folding and shaping them to create hollows, puffs, and natural fluid drops. The ruffled collar, billowing sleeves, wide flared pants, and flowing back jacket look remarkably like soft silk, achieving the absolute pinnacle of Italian ceramic sculpture—a high-level technique requiring immense skill to prevent cracking or collapsing during the firing process.

Condition: Please note that this piece is unfortunately missing one hand (as shown in the last picture). However, due to the voluminous puffy sleeves and the intricate, dramatic folds of the garment, this flaw is highly inconspicuous and easily blends into the design. Aside from this, the figurine is in beautiful, near flawless vintage condition with an excellent glaze. Please see pictures as they are part of the description. Sold as-is.
